Sonic Use Chart by Season in d3.js
One item I've been working on is learning d3.js. Found out it has quite a nasty learning curve. I don't think I've ever had this much trouble getting the hang of a language before. But I'm carrying on and have made some progress. And with this progress comes a new sonic use chart [imagine that].
The chart contains the sonic screwdriver uses by season [see chart by clicking link above]. The red bars show the number of sonic screwdriver uses. It does start with season one and we all know that there were no sonic uses in seasons one through four. I think you can plainly see where the new series starts.
Graphing can give you a view on a subject that the numbers just don't convey. Yea, we all know it's used more in the new series but really! Just look at how those bars spike up when the new series starts [#28]. I also need to colour code the bars to show the change in the Doctors, probably in a graduated theme. And also figure out what to do when there are more than two Doctors using the screwdriver like the TV Movie and the upcoming Day of the Doctor
I will be cleaning up the chart in time and also adding the uses from all the companions and the other shows. But for now I will enjoy the fruits of my labor and at this late hour, it is time to head to bed...
Next will be to put some interactive functions into the chart. But it is progress, and as I continue to climb the learning curve of d3 my charting will get more involved. I think this will be the perfect package for this dataset.
And now that it's moving along I hope to begin putting out more charts on the subject with this wonderful language.
